Classroom Policies

A. Attendance

Students are expected to be in class every day to actively take part in the curriculum and our daily discussions. When students are absent, parents have 10 school days to clear those absences through the Attendance Office.

B. Classroom Rules

All students are expected to be prepared to learn and work in a classroom setting. Students are required to bring their student agendas to class as part of their necessary materials. We will be using them daily as an aide to learning activities and organization. School rules are to be followed at all times. Any disruption to the learning process may result in disciplinary action, which may include parent conferences, classroom suspensions, or school suspensions.

C. Extra Tutoring / Safe Environment

I stay after school each Wednesday afternoon for students to come in and do homework, ask questions, and/or complete late/make-up work. In the event of a conflicting meeting or emergency, tutoring may be rescheduled for Tuesday or Thursday for that week. Such changes will be posted in the classroom and on my website.

D. Daily Assignments

Students will be given assignments daily. All work not completed in class must be completed as homework prior to the beginning of class the following school day. Work will be brought home EVERY DAY.

E. Make-up Work - Excused Absences

It shall be the student's responsibility to make arrangements for completion of missed work. Make-up work will be allowed for the amount of days equaling the days the student missed. For example, if the student was absent due to illness for 3 days, that student will be provided with make-up work and will be allowed the next 3 days to turn it in (not to exceed 5 days). Failure to turn in make-up work may negatively affect students’ academic standing.

F. Make-up Tests - Excused Absences

All tests must be made-up within two weeks of the original testing date.  As tests take significantly more time than quizzes, make-up tests will be administered after school on Wednesday’s only.  Any test not made up within this 2 week time frame will be scored as a zero (0).

G. Make-up Quizzes - Excused Absences

Quizzes must be made-up AT LUNCH in room 93 within 1 week (five school days) of the original quiz date.  Any quiz not made up within this 1 week time frame will be scored as a zero (0).

H. Make-up Work / Tests / Quizzes - Other Absences

If an absence is not excused, NO MAKE-UP WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

I. Tardy Sweep

All work that is due the date of the sweep will be scored as a ZERO (including tests). New assignments given that day are the students responsibility, and no adjustment in due dates will occur.

Homework Policy

To earn credit for an assignment, the student must use pencil, have the correct heading on the paper, the original problem, all work for that problem, and must have attempted each problem.
A student is not penalized for incorrect answers in homework.

As a class we will go over and discuss problems from homework. A completed assignment, turned in on time, will receive 2 points. A completed assignment turned in late, but prior to taking the exam on that chapter, will receive 1 point. Any assignment not turned in before the exam will receive a score of zero.

NO HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE EXAM ON THAT CHAPTER OR UNIT.

If a student habitually fails to turn in homework consequences may be:
lunch detention
referral to counselor
referral to administration

Evaluation of Student Performance

Assigning of grades will be done following a weighting framework:

District Unit Exams
Quizzes / Projects
Homework
Notebook/Participation
40%
35%
15%
10%

This class will be using the following grading scale:

90.0 ---> 100.0 ---> A
80.0 ---> 89.9 ---> B
70.0 ---> 79.9 ---> C
60.0 ---> 69.9 ---> D
NOTICE GRADES DO NOT ROUND UP!
